June 10, 2008, first day of school classes how can i forget this day? I woke up at 4:00 am, it was 2 hours earlier than my regular wake up time. It was sooo hard to get out of bed and take a cold shower! Ok forget about me, this is about my kids' first day in school.
It's Alyana's first day in high school, and since she's a transferee everything will be her firsts in that school. I was a bit worried about her, she's a shy type person and i can't help but think on how she's going to cope with her new surroundings and to the people around her. With Marco, it was also his first time to go to his school without his sister with him. Although he's been in the same school for 2 years, i can sense that he's a little bit nervous now that his sister has transferred and no longer around to guide him.
We arrived at my son's school quite early, only few students and teachers were around, so i accompanied him to his new classroom and told him to just wait for his teacher and classmates, we need to leave at once to get to her ate's school on time. Although he agreed, i 'm a bit anxious on leaving our "bunso" alone. But i can't stay there my daughter also needs my company.
On our way naman to Alyana's school, we were surprised at the heavy traffic near the perimeter of the school. We thought it was too early and we'll be ahead of the others. My daughter began to worry and I was worried too for her! We still need to find her room number in the School Bulletin Board. We know the place is already crowded with mothers and students looking for their own class section and room numbers. While in the midst of the traffic, i told my husband that we'll just get off the car and take a walk rather than waiting. But he didn't allow us, he said it's dangerous especially for me because of my disability. So we just waited.. and prayed.
Upon arrival we rushed into the school's entrance gate but the guard stopped me and told me that the parents are not allowed to used that gate, i was redirected to the other gate. I was separated from my daughter and i began to worry again for her. I rushed to the other gate so i could meet her fast inside! I met her at the school's lobby, we immediately find our way through the crowd to look for her room number. Luckily we made it! around 3 or 4 minutes before the bell, we were able to locate Alyana's room. I accompanied her to her classroom and stayed for a while to make sure she's fine and settled before i leave.
At the office, i can't help but think of my son the whole day. If only i can split myself into two so i can attend to both of them at the same time. Gosh! i only have two kids, i wonder how mothers of three or more children feel at times like this?

During the day I focus on my work, but when I go home, it's all about my children. I make sure that we spend "Mommy time" together. After dinner, i assist my kids in doing their homeworks, this is also our bonding time together. Marco and Alyana usually tell stories about their experiences and adventures in school. Most of them are funny stories that's why i really enjoy spending time with them. Other bonding moments for us is watching their favorite cartoons and movies together. My son loves to watch Pokemon and Sponge Bob, while my daughter is addicted to High School Musical. But if you're going to ask my children what bonding moment they would really enjoy.. they will both say--"a day at the Mall while eating our favorite pizza !" I remember my daughter even took some pictures of the pizza we bought one time. She says, "In loving memory of our PiZZa." hehe =)

You seem to turn the calendar pages with more and more frequency, and the storms of life may feel as if they rise ever higher. Newscasts and periodicals are little more than accounts of disasters and horrors.
There are hurricanes in several regions, mudslides in others, and even volcanoes. earthquakes strike almost daily in diverse places, coming so often that if the Richter Scale doesn't read six or higher, we no longer pay attention.
Those events occur in the realm beyond man's control. In places man can influence, it's even worse. Our courts, prisons, hospital, and schools testify of our struggles, and many feel they've nowhere to turn, no hope to clutch.
But from the book of Psalms we'll find hope. Psalm 46:1-3 says, "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its water roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging."
God is as near as a bended knee. He loves a humble and contrite spirit, and he has promised never to forsake you. When the storms of life rage, remember your only real refuge. He is always there standing on the firmest ground, offering the ultimate life preserver in His Son, Jesus Christ. All efforts except those performed in the shadow of Calvary are in vain.
"Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I wll be exalted in the earth."--Psalm 46:10

Typhoon Frank left at least 118 dead yesterday but the toll is expected to rise dramatically when the dead from a sunken ferry boat are counted as the typhoon slowly drifted to the Pacific Ocean but not after leaving a wide swath of destruction in a two-day rampage that left the country battered and helpless.
Metro Manilans awoke to howling winds, rattling windows, flying rooftops and without power yesterday morning as Frank lashed the metropolis and several Luzon provinces from early morning till evening.
The death toll from the sunken MV Princess of the Stars might reach as high as 700 as rescuers found almost no survivors from the capsized ferry which carried as many as 800 listed passengers on its manifest.
Some of the dead from the sunken ship were washed ashore by afternoon Sunday. Rescue operations were hampered by the swollen and angry sea, the fate of the passengers left at the mercy of the elements.
Radio reports said at least 10 bodies had been found while three survivors pulled ashore and told tales of horror, heroism and survival.
One of the survivors, Renato Lenario, told rescuers during a radio interview that they were having lunch at around 11:45 a.m. Saturday when the boat started listing and orders were barked to abandon ship.
He said he was lucky to survive after drifting aimlessly at sea in a capsized life raft. Two other companions who were in the same raft dropped away when a huge wave hit them, he said.
The typhoon caught many Metro residents sleeping as the storm, which a day earlier rampaged in the Visayas and Bicol, made an unexpected -- and deadly -- turn toward the country’s capital hitting it at dawn.
As day broke, transportation was paralyzed, many billboards down and nearly all domestic and international flights cancelled. Thousands of passengers were stranded. It was not until evening when international flights were allowed to leave.
That the typhoon came on a Sunday probably helped reduce casualties. Residents were mostly in their homes and looking forward to a day of rest.
But the rest turned to panic for many. They spent most of the day trying to protect their homes, property and lives as the typhoon pummelled the city with a force unmatched since 2006 when typhoon Millenyo ravaged the city with over 200-kph winds and brought it to its knees.
Metro Manila was not the only one which bore the brunt of the typhoon’s wrath yesterday.
The swath of destruction covered central Visayas and nearly the entire Luzon as the typhoon trudged slowly like a massive invading army leaving death and destruction behind.
There was suffering in Romblon, Mindoro, the Bicol provinces of Camarines and Albay and also Quezon, Batangas, Laguna and Cavite.
PAGASA said the typhoon will also most likely hit the northern provinces of Northern Luzon.
Authorities have estimated that millions worth of property, crops and infrastructure have been damaged.
The amount of damage is expected to rise, and with it, the death toll as reports come in from various parts of the country some of which have been isolated by power outage, floods and landslides.
President Arroyo, who left Sunday for a state visit to the United States as the typhoon was heading towards the country, called the National Disaster Coordinating Council yesterday morning and was surprised to learn that the sea tragedy may been caused by negligence on the part of the Coast Guard.
She scolded Coast Guard Commander Wilfredo Tamayo during a conference call during which she asked why a ship was allowed to leave when they knew a typhoon was approaching.
The Princess of the Stars, with 800 on board, 45 of them children, sunk on the way to Cebu hours after leaving the port of Manila.
Tamayo said the order to call off all trips from the port of Manila was issued at 11 p.m. Friday. By then, the Princess of the Stars owned by Sulpicio Lines was already out to sea for three hours having left at 8 p.m.
Coast Guard officials said the ship developed engine trouble and as a result was practically helpless against the strong waves generated by Typhoon Frank.
The Philippine Red Cross has also mobilized relief efforts.
Adding to the citizens’ woes, power outage was reported in many parts of the country.
In Metro Manila, power interruption was recorded in all the major cities as early as 3 a.m. Gradually, power was restored and by evening, the metropolis was alight and slowly returning to normal.
Signal No. 3, which covered the city and nearby Cavite, Laguna Batangas, Bulacan Pampanga and Tarlac, was downgraded to No. 2 by evening and should be No. 1 by Monday morning or afternoon.
PAGASA expects weather to return to normal by Wednesday although rains are still due today and tomorrow.
Classes in many cities will be suspended today.
A rescue ship battling huge waves and strong winds reached the MV Princess of Stars, one end jutting out of the water upside-down, more than 24 hours after it lost radio contact Saturday
``They haven’t seen anyone. They’re scouring the area. They’re studying the direction of the waves to determine where survivors may have drifted,’’ coast guard spokesman Lt. Senior Grade Arman Balilo said.
Villagers found four bodies _ including a man and a woman who bound themselves together _ along with children’s slippers and life jackets that washed ashore nearby.
The death toll included 59 people who drowned in the central province of Iloilo, with another 40 missing, Gov. Neil Tupaz said.
``Almost all the towns are covered by water. It’s like an ocean,’’ Tupaz said, adding thousands have been displaced in the province that is home to 1.7 million people.
TV footage showed rescuers using a long rope across raging floodwaters in an Iloilo village to pluck three residents to safety from atop a partly engulfed van. In a nearby village, residents pulled a body from a muddy field then laid it beside another they found earlier.
The ferry initially ran aground a few miles (kilometers) off central Sibuyan island Saturday, then capsized, said Mayor Nanette Tansingco of Sibuyan’s San Fernando.
At least three survivors were found in Sibuyan’s Mabini village and police were ordered to go there. But all the roads to the village, where many houses were washed away by huge waves, were blocked by toppled trees, Tansingco told DZBB radio.
She appealed for food, medicine and formalin to embalm bodies, apparently expecting many deaths in her town. The upturned ferry could be seen from her town, she said.
Packing sustained winds of 74 miles (120 kilometers) per hour and gusts of up to 93 mph (150 kph), the typhoon shifted course Sunday to the northwest and battered Manila at dawn.
President Arroyo directed the defense department and local governments to be on standby for relief and rescue missions before she left for the United States late Saturday.
Ferries are the main form of inter-island transportation in the sprawling Philippine archipelago, site of the world’s worst peacetime maritime disaster when the ferry MV Dona Paz sank in 1987, killing more than 4,341 people.
In southern Maguindanao province, at least 14 people drowned in flash floods Saturday, including 10 swept away from riverside homes, said provincial administrator Norie Unas. Five others were missing.
A man and his 10-year-old grandson were killed when a landslide buried their hillside shanty in Cotabato city Saturday, Mayor Muslimin Sema said.

An apple a day is still good sense to keep the doctor away, but a walk a day may reduce the risk of colds by up to 23 percent! As winter temps settle in, many people curl up under a warm blanket. Instead, bundle up against the chill factor and take yourself for a daily walk, or up your cardio time in the gym. Keep it movin' and that cold will have a harder time catching you, according to studies at the University of South California and University of Massachusetts.
To make your walk effective, do it each day as if you were ten minute late to catch a plane taking you on an all-expenses-paid trip to paradise with the love of your life and a pocketful of cash awaiting on the plane for you!

Desk jobs, wearing high heels, constantly trying to pull in our tummies, standing too long in lines and poor self-image all can contribute to bad posture. In a lifetime these add up causing many women to develop poor posture and muscular imbalances that not only inhibit graceful movement but also cause pain. Two of the most common problems are forward head posture and slumping shoulders. These exercises can't guarantee you'll never develop a "dowager's" hump but they can go a long ways in correcting the imbalances and strengthening the muscles that will help you hold and maintain correct posture.
Posture is a habit and like any habit, it can be learned. Sometimes the unlearning takes more time than the learning. Posture experts suggest you try the 9-12-3-6 method. At each quarter of your 12-hour day take a posture check and be sure that your head is back, neck over your shoulders, shoulders over your hips and hips over your feet. It also helps to think royally:imagine your head with a heavy crown that you must walk with! It really works!

Last week i received a text message from a high school friend. She said we have a class reunion in one of our classmates' house. At first i was excited, i decided to come because i haven't seen them for a long time. But the next day I've changed my mind, i felt i'm not ready to face them. I know most of them are successful now in their careers and businesses. Me? I'm just an ordinary employee working 9-10 hours a day in the office and an extended hours at home.
This morning in my devotion, i realized i was wrong. I have measured my value with the wrong standards! God doesn't think more or less of us based on our job, our bank account, our home. Our worth and dignity are rooted in the fact that God created us and that His Son died for us. What's important to Him is our degree of trust and our service done for His sake.

Important things to know about scents and fragrances
Frequently Asked Questions:
What is the difference between eau de parfum, eau de toilette, and eau de cologne?
The difference is in the amount or concentration of essences in the product. The highest concentration is in eau de parfum at 15% to 25%, then eau de toilette at 6% to 14%, and finally eau de cologne at 3% to 5%. Put simply, the higher the concentration of essences the stronger the perfume and the longer it will last.
Why do some fragrances last much longer than others?
The first consideration is the strength of the fragrance. This will make a difference to how long it lasts. As a guide, the following normally applies: colognes last 3 to 4 hours, eau de toilette 5 to 6 hours and eau de parfum 7 to 8 hours. However, people with dry skin usually find that a fragrance's holding time is shorter on their skin than it would be on somebody with oily skin. This is because oily skin has more natural moisture to hold in a fragrance.
Why do some fragrances smell different on my skin when compared with my friend's?
This is because pH levels (the amount of acidity in our skin) varies from person to person. Our individual levels of pH will determine how each ingredient in a fragrance will react on our skins which in turn impacts on the smell.
How can I keep my fragrance from going off?
Keep your fragrances in a cool, dry and dark area as sunlight can unbalance the various ingredients. An opened bottle should be kept in its box to ensure a longer shelf life.
How should I or where should I apply fragrance?
Fragrance should be applied to pulse points. This is where the blood vessels are closest to the skin giving off more heat and acting like mini fragrance pumps. Pulse points are the wrist, behind the ear, crook of the arm and knee, base of the throat. Also, for long lasting fragrance spray at the ankles, it allows the fragrance to blossom up.

Newspaper classifieds and online auctions are full of ads for “slightly used” treadmills, stationary bikes and the like. But what do you need to know before you pick up a deal at a yard sale or on eBay? Here are few guidelines from the experts:
Do your research. Before you buy secondhand, do some digging, says Mike May, director of communications at the Sporting Goods Manufacturer’s Association in
Test it out. If you’re not buying online, get on the equipment and use it like you would during normal workout. Consoles should read properly. Elliptical trainers that work the upper and lower body should have sufficient resistance. Treadmill belts shouldn’t slip. If the used equipment isn’t in good condition, find out what the problem is and what it will cost to fix it.
Check for recalls. Log on to US Consumer Product Safety Commission’s site, recalls.gov before you bring anything home, recommends commission spokeswoman Kim Dulic. The site lets you search to see if a product or one of its parts has been recalled and can alert you to potential repairs.
Consider a refurbished machine. Companies that specialize in sprucing up used equipment abound online. You’ll typically pay 30-50 percent less than if you bought it new. Check to see if the company offers a warranty on refurbished equipment.

Is there anything more annoying than whining? Are you troubled by your kids behavior? It is important that we understand our kids and know how to handle them when such a situation happen.
Ginger Plowman, author of the book No More Whining: Three Easy Steps to Whine-Free Living, children who whine in an attempt to get what they want lack healthy communication skills. Parents mustn’t blame the child for this behavior. Rather, they must understand that children whine simply because they are allowed to whine. Moms and dads who permit their children to whine (by ignoring or giving in) hinder them from learning to communicate appropriately, in a way that pleases God and brings happiness to all involved.
Children who use demanding forms of communication to express their wants and needs are in bondage to their emotions and lack of self-control. An enslaving addiction to whining does not make for a happy child. However, children who learn to communicate properly learn that self-control is a prerequisite for contentment, joy, and good living.
While parents agree that whining is an annoying and inappropriate form of communication, many simply do not know how to address it.
Scolding. According to the Bible, scolding is an angry response that will stir anger in the heart of your child: “A gentle answer turns away wrath but a harsh word stirs up anger” (Proverbs 15:1). A mom who responds to whining by yelling, “Stop that whining right now or you’re going to get it!” is training in anger and not modeling the self-control that she so desperately desires her child to learn. Correcting wrong behavior should never be an “I’ll show you” or a “Boy, you’re going to get it now” mentality. It should be given with an attitude of “I love you too much to allow you to live an undisciplined life.”
Ignoring and/or Giving In. Parents have a responsibility to train their children in wisdom for daily living. When children whine, it should be viewed as a precious opportunity to train them in self-control, not as a frustrating moment of inconvenience for mom or dad. To ignore them is to shirk your responsibility to train them. To give in by granting them what they whine for, is to reward and reinforce wrong behavior.
The Bible teaches that wrong behavior is merely the outward manifestation of the real problem, which is the heart: “For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks” (Matthew 12:34b). A wise parent will reach past the outward behavior and address the issue of the heart, which in the case of whining, is self-control. The Bible also teaches that parents are to bring their children up in the “training and instruction of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4). This requires that we not only correct them for wrong behavior, but that we instruct them in right behavior. Therefore, we must take it a step further than merely telling them not to whine. We must teach them to communicate with self-control.
Step One. Ask your child if he is speaking with a self-controlled voice. You might ask, “Sweetheart, are you asking Mommy for juice with a self-controlled voice?” You might add, “Mommy will never give you what you want when you whine. God wants you to use self-control, even with your voice.”
Step Two. Explain that it is love that motivates you to train him. You might say, “Honey, I love you too much to allow you to speak foolishly. Here’s what Mommy is going to do to help you learn self-control. You may wear the 'No Whine Watch', and when the buzzer goes off in three minutes, you may come back and ask for juice the right way.”
Step Three. Follow through. When the buzzer goes off, have the child come back and ask for juice with a self-controlled voice. It may be necessary to demonstrate the correct way to speak to help your child along. In doing this you are correcting him for wrong, and more important, training him in what is right.
If the child refuses to come back and ask the right way, perhaps deciding that he doesn’t want the juice after all, don’t force him to come back when the buzzer goes off, as that can encourage a power struggle. Simply don’t offer the juice and let it go. However, the next time he does ask for juice (or something else) in a whiney voice, repeat steps one through three again.
Be consistent in training, never give in to whining, and follow through with this plan each and every time an opportunity presents itself, and you’ll have a whine-free life (and a more joyful, self-controlled child) before you know it!Last December my kids had an educational tour at Bio Research Pet Hypermart in Manila. They have what they call 101 Destination Points which caters to the needs of hobbyists, petshop owners and pet breeders. Here you can find different animals such as rabbit, dog, cat, hamster, fish, bird, and a lot more. At Bio Research you can also buy the accessories needed for the pets like the fish bowl, fish meal, sunflower seeds and cages for the hamster.
They were so cute! so when my kids asked their dad to buy them fish and hamsters he just can't resist. Kaya tuloy naubos ang baon nilang pera nakalimutan na nila ang pasalubong nila para sa kin! lol Anyway the pets are worth keeping, my kids were happy and that makes me happy as well.
We are clueless about how to take care of the hamster so I did some research and here's what i found at Wikipedia:
Hamsters are rodents belonging to the subfamily Cricetinae. The subfamily contains about 18 species, classified in six or seven genera. Because they are easy to breed in captivity, hamsters are often used as lab animals and kept as pets in more economically developed countries. Recently hamsters have become established as popular small family pets.
Their diet contains a variety of foods both in the wild and when kept as a pets including dried food, berries and nuts. Fresh fruits and vegetables are also an integral part of their diet. Behavior can vary depending on their environment, genetics, and interaction with people.
Hamsters are stout-bodied, with tails much shorter than body length and have small furry ears, short stocky legs, and wide feet. Their thick, silky fur, which can be long or short, can be black, grey, white, brown, buff, yellow, "sapphire" or red depending on the species, or a mix of any of those colors. Underparts vary in color from white to shades of gray and black. The tail is often difficult to see; usually it is not very long, and on a long haired hamster it is barely visible. Hamsters are very flexible; and their bones are somewhat fragile.
Like all pets, hamsters need exercise and entertainment to maintain their physical and mental health. "Exercise wheels" allow hamsters to run full speed, and are a common fixture in pet hamsters' enclosures. Avoid using wheels with individual rungs or bars but rather select those with a solid base for comfortable running. This is because a hamster may trip and its legs may get caught on the rungs of the wheel while using it. It is also important that the wheel is big enough for the full adult size of the hamster, so a Syrian would require a wheel at least 8 inches in diameter.

Guarana seed extract is increasingly recognized as one of the most effective ingredients in supplements designed to help the user lose weight. It is an extract from the seed kernel of a South American tropical plant (Paullinia cupana var. sorbilis guaran), and its use as a medicinal herb dates back to 1669. Over the centuries it has been used to ward off headaches, to relieve cramps and fever and more recently as a commercial flavoring in soft drinks.
Guarana contains a compound (tetra methylxanthine) that is almost identical to caffeine. Like other nuts and seeds, the guarana seed is fatty. When ground into powder, it is not readily water soluble and therefore not as quickly absorbed by the body as the caffeine from your morning cup of coffee. The stimulant effect of guarana is released slowly, over as much as six hours. Compared to a double jolt of espresso, 50 mg. of guarana seed extract might be looked at as decaf!
Ephedra: A Different Cup of Tea
Guarana seed extract is not related to ephedrine or a ma huang, the powerful nerve stimulant linked with several high-profile deaths before coming under the regulatory eye of the FDA. Ephedrine is the salt of an alkaloid and is very soluble in water. Previously, ephedrine was often combined with caffeine and guarana seed extract, but it is a separate and distinct compound.
Read Labels Carefully
Always read labels carefully. Caffeine and guarana seed extract can be powerful adjuncts to help you burn more calories during your workouts. Use them in combination with your workouts for the greatest effect. Make certain your supplement does not contain more than 100 mg. of caffeine in a six hour period, and adjust your intake of other caffeinated drinks accordingly.
Safe Use of Caffeine
We're all familiar with caffeine. Whether you're sipping a latte at your favorite Starbucks or squatting around a tribal fire in the Amazon rain forest, caffeine is the stimulant most widely used by humans. It is contained in the leaves, seeds r fruits of more than 60 plants, and because its use is so widespread, it is a well-studied component of the food chain.
Caffeine can speed up reaction time and enhance the ability to carry out various demanding tasks. Many people find caffeine helps them stay alert to finish their work. caffeine also has thermogenic and mild appetite suppression effect, which explains why it is a common ingredient in diet supplements. The average soft drink contains 40 mg. of caffeine, and the average cup of coffee contains 100 mg.
The American Medical Association's official statement on caffeine's safety is that "Moderate tea or coffee drinkers probably have no concern for their health relative to their caffeine consumption provided other lifestyle habits (diet, alcohol consumption) are moderate as well."
Most experts agree that moderate caffeine consumption is 300 mg. a day, the equivalent to three cups of coffee, but this depends on the individual. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has stated that caffeine does not adversely affect reproduction in humans, although the agency continues to advise pregnant and lactating women to avoid caffeine.

When stress starts interfering with your life physically and emotionally, take action with these quick tips.
1. Road trip. Put a pretty postcard of a place you'd like to visit or a souvenir from your last vacation on the sun visor of your car. While you're stuck in traffic, look at the image and imagine your cares melting away.
2. Take five. Zone out of stressful situations at work by taking a break for a few minutes of quiet time or prayer.
3. Make a note. Keep a pen and paper by your bedside to jot down whatever worries are keeping you awake. If you have the issue in writing, you're assured you won't forget it so you can relax and fall asleep.
4. Check it off. Create a "procrastination list" of four things you've been meaning to do. Pick things that are hanging over your head and causing stress. Over the next month, eliminate one each week.
