Eye Twitching or Blepharospasm

These past days i noticed my son's eyes frequent blinking, the movement is involuntary and abnormal. It's not a surprise actually because i already knew what causes his eye problem. My son is addicted to computer games and that what makes his eyes over stressed or over fatigued. I kept telling him to reduce his time playing but he's really so stubborn. Too bad i can't supervise and control him since i'm always at work. I know i have to act on this problem as soon as possible so i already scheduled him for an eye check up this Saturday.

Meanwhile i did some research on this eye condition and here's what i learned from www.eyecaresource.com:

Eye Twitching, or Blepharospasm, is involuntary eyelid twitching. It is also referred to as an eye muscle spasm. The term blepharospasm really applies to any abnormal blinking or involuntary eye twitching of the eyelids caused by uncontrolled contractions of the muscles around the eyelids.

Sometimes people experience the twitching under the eye and others may experience the twitching in their right eye or twitching in their left eye. In simple terms it is a blinking disorder. One type of blepharospasm, Benign Essential Blepharospasm or BEB is a blinking disorder that is not life threatening and has an unknown causes. Other types of blepharospasm may be associated with dry eyes, Tourette’s Syndrome or other neurological problems and may be more serious.

Blepharospasm usually starts with abnormal or excessive blinking that is accompanied by general eye irritation. Early on, the excessive blinking may only occur as a result of being exposed to bright lights, being tired or if you are under a great deal of stress. The frequency of the eye spasms may increase throughout the day. Sometimes the eye spasm may resolve during sleep and not even occur after a sound night’s sleep until you have been awake for many hours. As the condition worsens, the spasms tend to get stronger and may result in the eyelids being tightly shut for a few hours at time making it impossible for the person to see.

My brother's homecoming

We’re supposed to watch Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen yesterday but our movie date was postponed because we have to be at my parents place to meet my brother, he came back home yesterday from Dubai. At around 7 pm he arrived safely, we're all thankful that he's safe and in good health.

My kids, his nephews and nieces were all excited on their “pasalubong”. They all wanted to have PlayStation 3, but the wannabe PS3 players got different toys instead. But inspite of not receiving their requested PS3 the kids were still grateful for their gifts.

We just had dinner and a little talk. We want to hear more stories from my brother about his experiences but our time was short, we know he needed some rest and we all need to go home as well to prepare for work and school the next morning. Maybe we can continue with our chit chat next weekend.

"Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" a box office hit

Despite poor reviews the "Transformers" sequel pulled in a record-breaking $16 million with its midnight showings Wednesday. Before it was shown, Daily News critic Joe Neumaier called "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" a "louder and more illogical film than the megasuccessful 2007 original.” Well, it’s really the audiences who ultimately make the decision regarding the success of the Transfromer Part 2.

My husband wants to see this movie so we’re planning to watch it on Sunday, anyway it’s been a long while since the last time we watched a movie in a theater. I just hope it’s really worth it.

Kimchi

I’m planning to prepare Kimchi for my husband, he really liked this Korean dish. My boss who’s a Korean national introduced Kimchi to us. At first I didn’t like the taste but after trying it again eventually I’ve learned to eat this spicy fermented vegetable.

Here's the Traditional Kim Chi Recipe from DrBenKim.com

Ingredients:

Napa cabbage - approximately one pound
4 cups of cold water
3 tablespoons of sea salt
1 tablespoon of fresh garlic, finely chopped
1 tablespoon of fresh ginger, finely chopped
1 tablespoon of fresh green onions (scallions), finely chopped
1 teaspoon of dried red chili pepper flakes (more if you like things spicy, less if you don't)
1 1/2 to 2 teaspoons of sugar

Directions:

Separate and wash cabbage leaves. Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of sea or kosher salt evenly on cabbage leaves. Place salted cabbage leaves in a large bowl, add 4 cups of cold water, cover with plastic wrap, and place in refrigerator overnight. Be sure that water covers all cabbage leaves - place a plate or other heavy object on top of leaves to ensure that they stay covered with water.

The next day, pour off water and thoroughly rinse cabbage leaves. You can shake them gently in the sink to remove excess moisture.

Place cabbage leaves back into large bowl and add garlic, green onion or scallions, ginger, dried red chili flakes, sugar, and 1 tablespoon of salt. Use your hands to rub seasoning evenly into all cabbage leaves. Be sure to use gloves to do this, otherwise, your hands will burn from the chili flakes. If you are pressed for time, mix seasoning ingredients with about a cup of warm water before adding them to cabbage to allow for easier distribution on cabbage leaves.

Transfer seasoned cabbage leaves into a large glass bottle. Be sure to use firm pressure with your hands to push down on cabbage leaves as they stack up inside the bottle. Transfer any liquid that accumulated during the mixing process into the bottle as well - it will become kim chi brine. Some liquid will also come out of the cabbage leaves as you press down on them as they are stacked in the bottle.

Leave about 2 inches of room at the top of the bottle before capping it tightly with a lid. Allow bottle of kim chi to sit at room temperature for 2-3 days.

Your kim chi is now ready to eat. Use scissors or a knife and cutting board to cut cabbage leaves into 2 inch pieces before serving as a side dish to a bowl of rice, soup, and perhaps a piece of fish. Refrigerate remaining kim chi and take out small portions right before meals. The refrigerated kim chi will continue to ferment slowly in the refrigerator over time, becoming more sour and flavorful with each passing day. So long as you use clean utensils to take out small portions, it will keep for up to a month in your refrigerator.

Kim chi, Korean miso soup, a bowl of rice, and some dried anchovies are a typical Korean meal - high in omega-3 fatty acids and friendly bacteria.

PDAs

There are so many kinds of gadgets available today and I’m trying to keep myself updated from time to time, a while ago I read about PDAs or Personal digital assistants. These hand held computers were originally designed as personal organizers, but became much more versatile over the years. PDAs are also known as pocket computers or palmtop computers. Unlike the ordinary computer, PDAs have Global Positioning Systems (GPS). Newer PDAs also have both color screens and audio capabilities, enabling them to be used as mobile phones, web browsers, or portable media players. Many PDAs can access the Internet, intranets or extranets via Wi-Fi, or Wireless Wide-Area Networks. This gadget is cool, i hope i can buy one soon. :)

H1N1 in Bulacan

I feel much better now, thank God! I’m glad i didn’t have fever or flu yesterday I don’t want to be suspected with Influenza A (H1N1). That’s because it was reported that classes at a public high school here in Bulacan were suspended after eight students tested positive for the virus. Since the virus is already in our place I know we cannot avoid if people would think we’re infected with virus once we show any signs or symptoms of the viral infection.

Though Health officials are not declaring a community outbreak here, it’s still very alarming. I hope the local government will do everything to contain and eventually eliminate the viral infection in the affected municipality.

This is just a quick post, so bye for now but I’ll do my blog hopping and dropping as soon as I feel better. Have a good day everyone!

Weekend inspirations: God's Rainbows

The falling rain dissolves into mist
And the thunder begins to die
As the sporadic lightning fades
An arch of color pours from the sky.

Rainbows appear after mighty storms
When things look their worst
Just when the sky is darkest gray,
Out of Heaven does a rainbow burst.

A spoiled evening

After our dinner last night husband and I went outside the house, we sat at the small improvised bench beside our house. I felt good while we were there because it was quiet and I love the cool gentle wind blowing. While gazing on the bright moon and stars husband and I engaged in a serious talk. I’m beginning to enjoy the moment when suddenly husband felt uncomfortable in our chair so we had to cut it short. I was quite disappointed..hehe Anyway, now we’re thinking of buying nice patio sets, husband wants us to be comfortable with our chair next time. Well, i hope we can get one soon. :)
